The appointment of a new envoy to Libya is an “absolute priority” for the UN

The United Nations considers that the appointment of a new envoy to Libya is “an absolute priority”, said the spokesman for the Secretary General of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric.

Asked by media about efforts to choose a special representative for the UN secretary-general in Libya, Dujarric said on Wednesday that the organization has been considering appointing a new head of its support mission in Libya ” as a top priority”.

On April 29, the Security Council unanimously adopted a UK resolution extending the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (Manul) for just three months.

After the resignation in November of the Slovak Jan Kubis, the Security Council displays multiple differences on Libya. The annual mandate of the Manul had therefore been renewed in September for only four months, before being extended in January for three months.
