Algiers, Algeria | Algeria solemnly commemorates, on Monday, the National Day of the People’s National Army (ANP)—a date enshrined by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune as a tribute to the indelible bond uniting the Algerian people with their military institution, and as a mark of profound recognition for the Army’s pivotal role in defending national sovereignty, unity, and statehood.

It is a bond few nations have witnessed with such depth and resilience, and one that was vividly reaffirmed during the historic military parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Algerian War of Independence. Presided over by President Tebboune, that event served as a powerful testament to the enduring unity between the people and their sons and daughters in uniform.

A Defensive Doctrine Anchored in Sovereignty

President Tebboune has consistently underscored the inherently defensive doctrine of the ANP, emphasizing that its arsenal exists solely to safeguard Algeria’s territorial integrity, uphold its sovereign decisions, and promote peace and security regionally and internationally, in line with the country’s constitutional principles and international commitments. “The Army’s weapons are destined exclusively to defend Algeria,” he declared—a position reflecting both strategic clarity and unwavering constitutional fidelity.

By honoring this date, Algeria pays tribute not only to the martyrs of the War of Independence, but also to those who fell in the line of duty in the fight against terrorism, and to all servicemen and women who continue to defend the Republic with valor and discipline.

Commemorative events are being held across all ANP military regions, paying homage to the sacrifices of freedom fighters, victims of terrorism, and wounded veterans. These ceremonies serve as a collective reaffirmation of national memory, unity, and gratitude.
