ALGIERS- In a recent interview, prominent lawyer and legal advisor, Farida Abri, highlighted the pressing need for decisive action against the surge of violent and malicious content on social media platforms. Abri emphasized that the Algerian legislator had taken significant steps to address this issue, recognizing the importance of a robust legal framework to ensure societal stability and safety.

Abri applauded President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s proactive approach to tackling the menace of harmful online content. Under his leadership, Algeria has witnessed the establishment of new judicial institutions, including specialized criminal poles dedicated to combating cybercrime and electronic offenses. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining control over all actions within the Algerian community.

One of the key aspects of the legal reforms introduced by President Tebboune is the amendment of laws governing the punishment for incitement to racism, threats to national security, and the dissemination of discriminatory and hateful discourse. Abri commended these changes, which have significantly intensified and harshened penalties for individuals who propagate such ideas. The legal expert stressed that these amendments send a strong message: disgraceful behavior, false content, and hate speech on social media will not go unpunished.

Abri remarked that Algeria has experienced a monumental leap forward in combating the spread of harmful online content. The new legal provisions have made it virtually impossible for anyone to engage in such behavior without facing legal consequences. The era of hiding behind the veil of freedom of expression to perpetrate crimes through social media is now over.

Regarding the severity of penalties imposed on perpetrators of false content, hate speech, and electronic crimes, Abri disclosed that they could face sentences of up to 20 years in prison. This stern approach underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national stability and protecting its citizens from the perils of online extremism.

Furthermore, Abri urged the activation and intensification of a culture of reporting crimes propagated through social media. She emphasized the importance of empowering citizens to become the “third eye” of the state, contributing to a collective effort to reduce the number of victims of online crimes. By encouraging individuals to report illegal activities, Algeria aims to enhance its ability to combat cybercrime effectively.

In conclusion, Lawyer Farida Abri’ statements serve as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers posed by immoral content on social media. Algeria’s legislative reforms, under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership, demonstrate a resolute commitment to protecting its citizens and ensuring social stability. By amending laws, intensifying penalties, and encouraging citizen participation, Algeria is forging a path towards a safer and more secure digital landscape for all its inhabitants.
