Algiers – November 2025 – The influence of “influencers” in Algeria is no longer a mere virtual pastime; it has evolved into a formidable current of public opinion—reshaping taste, behavior, and even the everyday vocabulary of society.
Caught between waves of frivolity on one side and models of genuine inspiration on the other, Algerian audiences now stand before a stark dualism: What kind of influence do we want? And what kind of society are we collectively building?
First: Influencers Who Generate Noise… Not Value
It is impossible to deny that a significant segment of Algerian digital content has fallen hostage to banality:
empty content built on provocation, innuendo, and indecency; an obsession with chasing trends at any cost—even when that cost is moral decline or the violation of others’ privacy; the normalization of poor taste by turning aberrant behaviors into supposedly “ordinary” scenes consumed daily; the exploitation of followers through fabricated drama and staged relationships engineered solely to inflate views.
This trend, fragile though it may be, enjoys massive circulation because social platforms reward noise far more than meaningful substance. Here lies the true danger: an insidious influence infiltrating the minds of teenagers and reshaping their worldview in distorted ways.
Second: Influencers Who Make a Difference… and Build Awareness
In contrast, another face of the digital landscape emerges: young creators producing scientific, cultural, educational, journalistic, and sports content with professionalism and integrity; influencers who promote ethical values, philanthropy, and initiatives that inspire thousands; talents who have transformed passion into societal value through simple platforms; women and men who spread awareness far from vulgarity.
These individuals prove, day after day, that true influence is not measured by the number of followers, but by the substance of the message.
Third: Between These Two Currents… the Audience Decides
Algorithms amplify what we choose to amplify. The audience bears no less responsibility than the influencer, for a follow is a voice, a like is a vote, and a share is an act of magnification.
Influencers in Algeria are neither an inherent problem nor an automatic blessing; they are a mirror of society. If we elevate our standards, the content will rise. If we demand substance, the trivial will fade. If we support those who bring value, a new generation of awareness-builders will emerge.
We either choose the kind of influence that constructs and uplifts… or we surrender ourselves to a current that hollows minds and distorts generations. Ultimately, the choice rests with us—and us alone.
