Tindouf Governor Reveals Inside Story of Mega Rail Project: 22 Kilometres of Bridges Across the Sahara

Dahou disclosed that the railway includes the construction of 45 bridges spanning a cumulative length of 22 kilometres, a feat of engineering unprecedented in Algeria’s desert regions. Among them stands the remarkable “Doura Bridge,” stretching four kilometres across the vast Saharan expanse—completed in record time despite formidable environmental challenges.

The governor underscored that workers operated under extreme climatic conditions, confronting scorching temperatures and relentless desert winds without interruption. Construction teams adhered to a demanding 8×3 rotating schedule, ensuring continuous progress on a project deemed essential to Algeria’s industrial sovereignty and logistical transformation.

Beyond its engineering scale, the railway is widely viewed as a cornerstone of Algeria’s strategy to unlock the immense mineral wealth of Gara Djebilet’s iron ore reserves, integrate the country’s southwestern territories into national supply chains, and strengthen economic corridors toward African markets.
