Algiers, Algeria |  In a decisive rebuttal to the relentless propaganda campaign orchestrated by the Moroccan regime and its media apparatus, the Sahrawi delegation took part without obstruction in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), with full recognition and unprecedented protective measures ensured by the Japanese authorities.

The Sahrawi Prime Minister, Boucharaya Hammoudi Bayoun, represented President Brahim Ghali at the summit, accompanied by Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek and the Sahrawi Ambassador to the African Union, Lamine Baali. Their presence at TICAD stands as a powerful confirmation of the Sahrawi Republic’s legitimacy within the African family of nations, in sharp contrast to the fabrications disseminated by Moroccan outlets.

In a gesture without precedent in the history of international conferences, Japanese authorities not only facilitated the Sahrawi delegation’s participation but also granted them close personal protection. Each Sahrawi official was assigned individual security personnel to shield against any physical or verbal aggression. This measure reflects Japan’s determination to ensure a safe, dignified, and uninterrupted participation for the Sahrawi Republic — a symbolic stance that carries considerable diplomatic weight.

Such protection did not arise in a vacuum. Tokyo had anticipated potential provocations and disruptive maneuvers from pro-Moroccan quarters, particularly in light of previous attempts by Rabat to obstruct Sahrawi participation in international fora, including the last TICAD session. By instituting this exceptional protocol, Japan sent a clear message: no amount of pressure or misinformation will deter the international community from recognizing the Sahrawi people’s right to representation.

Meanwhile, the Moroccan regime deployed a fierce media campaign ahead of the conference, seeking to mislead international opinion into believing that the Sahrawi delegation had been barred from TICAD. These falsehoods collapsed instantly as images and reports confirmed the presence of the Sahrawi leadership at the highest level.

The Sahrawi delegation’s active participation at TICAD underscores once again the growing international recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, despite decades of Moroccan obstruction. For the Sahrawi people, this moment represents not only a diplomatic victory but also a renewed assertion that their voice will not be silenced — not in Africa, not in Asia, and not on the global stage.
