Tragedy at Sabelettes: 7 Individuals Arrested

Algiers- Algeria, May 13, 2024 – In a statement issued on Monday, the prosecutor of the Republic at the Hussein Dey tribunal in Algiers announced the arrest of 7 individuals in connection with the investigation into the drowning deaths of 5 children at Sabelettes Beach on Saturday evening.

The statement revealed that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated following the tragic incident. The investigation is examining the circumstances surrounding the organization of two outings, particularly focusing on regulations and child protection measures, to determine any responsibilities.

“Following the preliminary investigation, 7 individuals have been arrested and placed in custody pending further investigations,” the statement confirmed.

The incident occurred when a group of children, accompanied by adults, went on an excursion to Sabelettes Beach. Despite rescue attempts, 5 children tragically lost their lives in the drowning incident.
