Trans-Saharan Partnership Strengthened: Algerian FM Ahmed Attaf Meets Nigerian Parliament Speaker Tajudeen Abbas

Algiers – October 2025 – In a meeting that underscored the strategic depth of Algerian-Nigerian relations, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received on Tuesday in Algiers the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who is on an official visit to Algeria at the invitation of the President of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Brahim Boughali.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity to “review the various dimensions of the brotherly and cooperative relations uniting Algeria and Nigeria” and to “examine the means by which the legislative institutions of both countries can contribute to the shared efforts aimed at giving these relations renewed momentum.”

Discussions also focused on the activation of parliamentary diplomacy mechanisms, viewed as a vital instrument for strengthening bilateral ties and supporting the realization of regional integration projects of strategic importance, including energy and infrastructure cooperation across the Sahel.

This high-level exchange came as part of a broader official visit by the Nigerian delegation, led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, aimed at deepening dialogue and exploring new prospects for partnership. The talks reflected a shared vision between Algiers and Abuja to consolidate South–South cooperation and to reinforce joint African initiatives promoting stability, economic integration, and sustainable development.
