Transport Minister: Domestic Air Route Expansion Project Reaches Final Phase

El Oued — The Minister of Transport, Saïd Sayoud, announced on Saturday during an official visit to the El Oued province that Algeria’s domestic air services are set to be significantly enhanced in the coming days, with the opening of new routes — particularly those connecting to the southern regions of the country.

According to Minister Sayoud, the strategic project has now reached its final implementation phase and will soon be realized through the creation of a new airline fully dedicated to domestic flights. In this regard, he confirmed the transfer of fifteen large aircraft from Tassili Airlines to the newly established company, pending the gradual acquisition of sixteen additional aircraft to further strengthen the fleet.

He emphasized that provincial governors and local transport directors will play a central role in the operational rollout of this large-scale initiative, ensuring that the needs of each region are taken into account and that services are tailored to improve national connectivity.

During his field visit, the minister also inspected the terminal expansion project at the regional airport, which is part of broader efforts to modernize transport infrastructure. Additionally, he handed over eight new buses to the state-owned company responsible for urban and suburban transport operations in the wilaya, reflecting a comprehensive approach to enhancing public mobility both in the air and on the ground.
