U.S. Destroyer USS Roosevelt Docks in Algiers, Marking a New Chapter in Algerian–American Military Cooperation

Algiers – October 2025 – The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) docked in Algiers on Sunday as part of ongoing military cooperation between the two nations.
Commanded by Captain Jared Carlson, the crew of the USS Roosevelt is set to participate in a series of professional and cultural activities in the Algerian capital. The program includes high-level meetings with senior officials from the Algerian military establishment, as well as visits to key cultural and historical landmarks in Algiers.
This visit follows a steady sequence of diplomatic and military exchanges that reflect a shared interest in regional security and stability. It comes shortly after the September visit of U.S. Air Force General Claude K. Tudor Jr., Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command Africa, and builds on previous engagements such as the docking of the USS Sherman in May 2025 and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on military cooperation earlier in January.
In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Algiers, the diplomatic mission described the USS Roosevelt’s presence as “a symbol of the United States’ commitment to regional security, cooperation, and the promotion of peace and stability.” The Embassy further highlighted that this visit provides “an important opportunity for American sailors to engage with their Algerian counterparts and local communities, fostering mutual understanding, respect, and partnership between the two nations.”
