Algiers, Algeria | June 12th, 2025 — As Gaza enters its ninth month under relentless bombardment by the Zionist entity, the United States has intensified its repressive campaign against global expressions of solidarity with the Palestinian cause. On June 10, the U.S. State Department announced sweeping sanctions targeting several humanitarian organizations — including the respected Algerian NGO El Baraka and its president, Ahmed Brahimi — in a politically motivated act of aggression against pro-Palestinian humanitarianism.

Citing Executive Order 13224, the U.S. government accused El Baraka of serving as a “humanitarian front” for Hamas, alleging that funds collected for civilian relief were rerouted to the Palestinian resistance movement. These unproven claims, made without public evidence or due process, have been met with indignation by civil society groups across the Arab world.

In addition to El Baraka, the U.S. also sanctioned Al Weam (Gaza), Filistin Vakfi (Turkey), Israa Foundation (Netherlands), Addameer (West Bank), and Cupola d’Oro (Italy). Another unnamed organization was accused of links to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) — a long-standing Palestinian political movement.

The targeting of Ahmed Brahimi, a known humanitarian figure in Algeria, reflects Washington’s double standard: while professing to uphold humanitarian values, the U.S. simultaneously punishes those who provide actual aid to populations facing genocide. El Baraka has for years coordinated food, medical, and logistical support to Palestinian civilians trapped in the besieged Gaza Strip — now reduced to rubble by the Zionist military’s indiscriminate violence.

This move comes as the Zionist entity is under international scrutiny for war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. Despite mounting evidence and widespread condemnation, the U.S. continues to funnel weapons and political protection to Tel Aviv, while working systematically to silence any dissent or resistance to its actions.

The sanctions are not merely administrative — they are a declaration of hostility toward humanitarian ethics and toward Algeria’s principled stance in defense of Palestine. Observers across the Global South see this as a desperate attempt by the U.S. to criminalize solidarity and suppress any form of resistance to Zionist colonialism.

By punishing El Baraka, the U.S. has laid bare its priorities: not justice, not peace, but complicity with apartheid, occupation, and mass murder.

As the children of Gaza starve, bleed, and die, it is not Ahmed Brahimi or El Baraka who stand on the wrong side of history — it is those who vilify compassion while financing genocide.
