UGTA Welcomes 2026 Finance Bill as Balanced and Citizen-Friendly

Algiers – October 2025 – Amar Takdjout, Secretary General of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), expressed strong approval for the main orientations outlined in the 2026 Finance Bill, emphasizing its balanced nature and strict alignment with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, particularly regarding the absence of new taxes.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of an international conference titled “Empowering Arab Trade Unions in the Face of Automation and Artificial Intelligence,” held at the Legacy Hotel in Algiers, Takdjout underscored that the proposed Finance Bill safeguards citizens’ purchasing power while refraining from imposing any additional fiscal burdens.
Describing the bill as a “positive initiative,” he highlighted its role in supporting Algeria’s broader strategy of transitioning toward a diversified economy, less reliant on hydrocarbons. “This text strengthens the national economy and can be summarized in two essential points: it does not negatively affect citizens and preserves the stability of purchasing power,” he stated.
He further noted the thoughtful balance in the bill’s design, praising the government’s decision to avoid new taxes on workers, signaling a strong commitment to social justice and the protection of living standards.
