Unemployment Allowance in Algeria: ANEM Processes 140,000 New Applications Through “Minha” Platform

ALGIERS, March 22nd, 2026 — Algeria’s National Employment Agency (ANEM) has significantly accelerated the processing of unemployment benefits, handling approximately 140,000 new applications through its digital platform “Minha,” in a move that underscores the state’s continued commitment to social support and administrative modernization.
Operating under the leadership of Director-General Abdelkader Djaber, the agency is currently engaged in the examination of these new files while simultaneously scheduling eligibility verification appointments across its national network. The allowance, set at 18,000 Algerian dinars, remains a central component of the country’s social assistance framework.
At the heart of this effort lies the digital transformation embodied by the “Minha” platform, which has streamlined procedures and enhanced administrative efficiency. Applicants are now able to monitor the status of their submissions in real time, ensuring greater transparency. Decisions—whether approval, rejection, or suspension—are clearly communicated, while the reactivation of suspended files has been reduced to a markedly shorter timeframe, typically ranging between one and four days following regularization.
Administrative appointments aimed at verifying eligibility are being deployed across the agency’s extensive territorial network, encompassing 58 wilaya offices and 278 local branches, thereby ensuring nationwide accessibility to the program.
Since the launch of the unemployment allowance mechanism in March 2022, ANEM has managed a substantial volume of applications, reflecting both the scale of demand and the institutional capacity mobilized in response. Over 1.4 million files have been reactivated following suspension, while approximately 800,000 appeals and claims have been processed in accordance with prevailing legal frameworks. Additionally, around 90,000 cases of undue payments have been resolved amicably through structured repayment plans.
To safeguard the integrity of the system, ANEM relies on an advanced automated verification tool that cross-references applicant data with more than 600 local and central databases, ensuring both accuracy and compliance.
Beyond financial assistance, the program is embedded within a broader strategy aimed at facilitating sustainable employment. Beneficiaries are supported through targeted technical workshops focused on enhancing employability, including CV writing and interview preparation. In 2025 alone, some 48,000 workshops were organized, benefiting approximately 35,000 job seekers—85 percent of whom were recipients of the unemployment allowance.
These initiatives form part of a wider policy framework championed by Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening social protection mechanisms while fostering the professional integration of young graduates in an evolving economic landscape.
