“We Must Act Now”: Algeria Slams Zionist Entity over Heinous Crimes in Gaza

Algeria’s UN Ambassador Amar Bendjama decries the UN’s inertia, exposing the Zionist entity’s systematic extermination of Palestinian civilians—especially children—in Gaza and demanding urgent international action

Algiers, Algeria | May 29th, 2025 — In a searing address delivered at the United Nations Security Council, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, launched a powerful denunciation of the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people in Gaza. His remarks, delivered during a high-level meeting on the Palestinian question, called for urgent, uncompromising action from the international community, declaring that “the time for indecision is over.”

“These Are Not Numbers – These Are Lives”

Visibly moved and resolute, Bendjama decried the staggering human toll of the Zionist aggression:

“The numbers have lost their meaning. What use is it to say 18,000 children have been martyred? These are not numbers. These are lives, dreams, voices, faces, playtimes, and lullabies extinguished. They were the warmth of homes, the joy of classrooms, the heartbeat of neighborhoods,” he thundered.

Since October 7, 2023, the occupying Zionist forces have killed over 54,000 people and injured more than 123,000 others, Bendjama reported. Just since March 18, an additional 3,900 people were killed and over 11,000 injured. “How many more martyrs will it take before this Council acts?” he asked with blistering urgency. “How many more orphans must roam the ruins of Gaza? How much more blood must be spilled before this Council finally acknowledges that enough is enough?”

Gaza’s Horror Is Not Collateral Damage—It Is Policy

Bendjama underscored that the destruction of Palestinian life is no accident or by-product of war, but the result of a deliberate and racist system that dehumanizes Palestinians and treats their lives as disposable.

He cited the harrowing case of Palestinian pediatrician Alaa al-Najjar, who lost all nine of her children, aged between 6 months and 12 years, in a Zionist airstrike. Their burned remains were returned to her for identification, piece by piece, while her husband lay in a coma and her tenth child was severely wounded.

He also highlighted the tragic case of Warda Sheikh Khalil, a 6-year-old girl who was rescued from the charred remains of a school that had served as a shelter. Her mother and siblings were killed, and her father now clings to life.

“No one is spared in Gaza—not doctors, not women, not children, not the displaced. Not even hope itself,” said Bendjama, his voice laced with despair and defiance.

Zionist Settler Colonialism and the Global Complicity of Silence

Bendjama condemned the ongoing settler violence, the expansion of Zionist colonies, and the desecration of holy sites as part of a broader strategy of slow-motion ethnic cleansing and territorial theft.

“Palestinian land is being devoured centimeter by centimeter, while the world watches,” he said.

He blasted the so-called “international community” for its silence and duplicity, recalling how, despite decades of promises, Palestinians have yet to see the realization of their sovereign state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

“Three decades after the Oslo Accords, the dream of a Palestinian state is vanishing under the boot of occupation and the cowardice of the world,” he stated.

President Tebboune’s Stand: End the Historical Injustice

Bendjama invoked the words of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who declared:

“We must act decisively to end the historic and ongoing injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people and urgently revive the peace process, which is currently in an unprecedented deadlock. It is imperative to compel the occupying power to comply with relevant UN resolutions and fulfill its obligations.”

Bendjama closed his address with a blunt reminder:

“Palestinians, like all human beings, have a right to life, to dignity, and to a homeland. They are not the exception. We must address the roots of this conflict and act without delay.”

“Survival Is Not Enough”

The UN’s special envoy for the Middle East, Sigrid Kaag, echoed the urgent need for action, asserting that the people of Gaza are plunging ever deeper “into the abyss.”

“Civilians in Gaza no longer say ‘see you tomorrow’; they say ‘see you in paradise.’ Death is their companion. This is not life. This is not hope,” she declared.

Kaag emphasized that the people of Gaza deserve more than to simply survive—they deserve to live with dignity and vision.

“Words like empathy and solidarity have lost all meaning in Gaza,” she lamented. “Each victim had a name, a future, dreams, and aspirations. We must not become numb to the rising death toll.”

Algeria Stands Firm

Algeria, through its principled and impassioned diplomacy, continues to be a moral force in defense of Palestinian rights. In the face of Zionist barbarity and international apathy, the North African nation refuses to be silent. As Bendjama asserted:

“Algeria will not turn away. Algeria will not be silent. Algeria will not accept that these atrocities be normalized or excused.”

As the Zionist entity intensifies its crimes and Gaza continues to burn, Algeria’s message is loud and unequivocal: We must act—now.
