Who Fears a Strong Algerian-Egyptian Alliance? Al-Arabiya’s Fabricated Narrative Exposed

Algiers – September 2025 – In yet another display of its relentless campaign of disinformation, the Saudi channel Al-Arabiya has crossed a new threshold in media manipulation by broadcasting a falsified video allegedly showing the late Gamal Abdel Nasser downplaying Algeria’s role during the Six-Day War of 1967. Far from an innocent archival revelation, this fabrication epitomizes the channel’s agenda: to distort history, sow discord, and tarnish the image of nations most deeply committed to the Arab cause.
The timing and intent are transparent. By seeking to pit Algeria against Egypt, Al-Arabiya aims to fracture the historical fraternity between Algiers and Cairo—two regional powers whose shared sacrifices remain etched in the annals of Arab resistance. Egyptian military officers consistently recall Algeria’s decisive support during the 1973 October War, praising both the financial aid and the troops who fought—and fell—on Egyptian soil. They speak with reverence of the Algerian martyrs whose blood was shed for Egypt’s liberation, and of the immense losses inflicted upon Israeli forces thanks to their valor.
The falsification is grotesque. The so-called video, clearly generated through artificial intelligence techniques, bears none of the authenticity of genuine archival material. No official records, international press, or historical speeches corroborate the claims attributed to Nasser. On the contrary, Nasser’s unwavering support for Algeria and his lifelong commitment to Arab unity are matters of public record. This fabrication is, in short, an act of historical sabotage.
But the attack is not merely against Algeria’s legacy. It is a direct attempt to undermine Egyptian leadership under President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi and his call for a unified Arab force. Al-Arabiya’s campaign exposes its true role—not as a platform for journalism, but as an instrument of disinformation, strategically deployed to weaken Arab solidarity and serve external agendas.
What stands out most, however, is the perfidious way in which Al-Arabiya exploits Algerian intellectuals and commentators. Their genuine patriotism and critical reflections are stripped of context and repurposed to lend credibility to the channel’s divisive narrative. What begins as honest discourse is weaponized into a tool of manipulation—a signature tactic of a broadcaster long infamous for fueling division and rewriting history.
The truth remains unshakable: the bonds between Algeria and Egypt were forged in blood, sacrifice, and an unyielding struggle against colonialism and Zionism. They cannot be broken by artificial edits or digital deepfakes. Boumediene’s historic decision to secure arms from Moscow on behalf of Egypt, pledging Algeria’s resources as a guarantee, remains a defining act of solidarity—an indelible reminder of the fraternity between the two peoples.
Ultimately, the falsification of history is an assault on dignity and memory. Yet it will not succeed. Algerians and Egyptians alike can distinguish fact from fabrication, loyalty from treachery, solidarity from sabotage. For every manipulative broadcast Al-Arabiya airs, the historical record speaks louder: Algeria and Egypt stood shoulder to shoulder in the crucible of struggle, and their unity continues to stand as a beacon of resistance in the Arab world.
