Who is Sifi Ghrieb?

Algiers – September 2025 – Algeria has entered a new political chapter with the official appointment of Sifi Ghrieb as Prime Minister by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune this Sunday. Ghrieb, who had been serving as acting head of government since August 28, now assumes full responsibility for steering the executive branch, armed with a formidable background in industry and scientific research.
An Industrialist at the Helm
Prior to his elevation, Ghrieb held the portfolio of Minister of Industry since November 2024, a position that placed him at the forefront of Algeria’s economic modernization drive. His professional journey has been deeply interwoven with the nation’s industrial fabric, offering him an intimate knowledge of enterprises, holdings, and strategic sectors. He notably chaired the board of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company (AQS) and served as CEO of the National Recovery Company, a subsidiary of the Imetal Group.
Ghrieb’s trajectory also includes leadership as CEO of the Industrial University under the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, director of research at the CETIM (Technical Studies and Services Center for Building Materials Industry), and general director of the Cement Industry Training Center linked to the GICA industrial group. This breadth of experience situates him as a technocrat uniquely prepared to advance Algeria’s industrial ambitions.
A Scholar of Materials Science
Academically, Ghrieb holds a doctorate in physical chemistry of materials from Badji Mokhtar University in Annaba. His scientific contributions extend beyond theory into impactful projects: the launch of the first oil well using locally produced cement, the supervision of Algeria’s first marine engine in partnership with Serport and EMO Constantine, and the accreditation of Ain El Kebira cement by Texdot in the United States. These achievements underline his rare combination of technical mastery and managerial vision.
Reformer with a Strategic Outlook
As Minister of Industry, Ghrieb crafted in December 2024 a comprehensive roadmap to revive national industry, advocating greater coordination between industrial groups and other sectors of the economy. He focused on revitalization strategies, financial restructuring, and dynamic marketing policies aimed at external markets, particularly Africa, where Algeria seeks to assert itself as a competitive player.
His proactive leadership was also visible in crisis management. Following the tragic bus accident in Oued El Harrach, which exposed the precarious state of the public transport fleet, President Tebboune entrusted Ghrieb with urgent measures including the importation of 10,000 buses and diverse categories of tires.
