Who is Zoheir Bouamama, Algeria’s New Minister of Communication?

Bouamama, a native of Majaz Dècheche in Skikda province, brings with him a formidable academic pedigree. Holder of a doctorate in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Algiers, he has long been recognized as a distinguished professor of higher education, having taught at several national institutions including Badji Mokhtar University in Annaba and the Algerian Diplomatic Institute. His scholarly contributions, reinforced by years of teaching and mentoring young researchers in international relations, have made him a respected figure within both academic and policy-making circles.
Beyond academia, Bouamama has played a prominent role within the political sphere. He previously served as Advisor to the President of the Republic on political affairs, and in May 2025, he was entrusted with a broader mission as presidential advisor in charge of political affairs, as well as youth, civil society, and party relations. His appointment to the ministry is therefore not merely administrative; it reflects a deliberate choice to place an intellectual-turned-practitioner at the heart of Algeria’s communication strategy, a sector that remains vital for both domestic cohesion and international positioning.
