Algiers, Algeria | September 11th, 2024 President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s recent re-election for a second term has prompted an outpouring of support and well-wishes from global leaders, reaffirming Algeria’s pivotal role on the international stage. Sovereigns and heads of state have expressed their readiness to enhance bilateral relations and deepen cooperation, reflecting the international community’s confidence in Algeria’s political trajectory.

King Abdullah II of Jordan, a close ally and “brotherly” nation, was among the first to extend his congratulations, commending the Algerian people’s choice and expressing heartfelt hopes for continued prosperity and stability in Algeria. President Tebboune, in return, expressed deep gratitude and affirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations, particularly in the service of shared regional causes.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also called to congratulate Tebboune, echoing similar sentiments of optimism for future cooperation. The prince underscored Saudi Arabia’s desire to work closely with Algeria on various fronts, fostering stronger ties in trade, security, and regional stability.

The series of congratulatory calls continued with a heartfelt message from the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who emphasized the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations. Tebboune received additional praise from Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, who wished for the continued progress of Algeria and further development of bilateral relations, underscoring the longstanding fraternal ties that bind the two nations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a formal message to President Tebboune, marking the re-election as a “convincing victory,” which Putin views as a testament to the strong support Tebboune commands among his people. The Russian leader’s message also signaled Moscow’s readiness to advance cooperation with Algeria, particularly in energy, defense, and strategic diplomacy.

In another notable statement, Brahim Ghali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, congratulated Tebboune in the name of the Sahrawi people, reaffirming the strong bonds of solidarity between the two nations and expressing hope for further joint efforts in championing the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes on the international stage.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati also called to extend his congratulations, while Sergio Mattarella, President of Italy, reinforced the strategic partnership between Algeria and Italy, highlighting the deep, exceptional friendship that has been cultivated through harmonious political dialogue. This alignment signals a strong future of collaborative efforts in various sectors, including energy, culture, and security.

Beyond Europe and the Middle East, expressions of solidarity came from across the Atlantic. Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo joined the global chorus with warm congratulations, emphasizing the shared history of brotherhood between Nicaragua and Algeria. Their message spoke of the enduring friendship between their peoples, standing in solidarity with Algeria’s development path.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel also sent a message of peace and prosperity to President Tebboune, extending Cuba’s support in advancing mutual interests, particularly in healthcare, education, and social development.

These numerous expressions of goodwill from sovereigns and heads of state worldwide are not merely diplomatic gestures, but a testament to President Tebboune’s leadership and Algeria’s growing prominence in global affairs. The international community’s response reflects confidence in the future of Algerian diplomacy, as the country continues to uphold its principled stance on justice, peace, and cooperation in the region and beyond.
