Why is the UAE using Chad as a conduit?

Chad shares a long and porous border with western Sudan, particularly the Darfur region, where some of the fiercest fighting has taken place. With its limited border surveillance and deepening ties with the UAE in military, economic, and political spheres, Chad has become a convenient corridor for clandestine operations. Using civilian and diplomatic flights ensures a high degree of secrecy and facilitates the unmonitored transfer of weapons to armed groups responsible for atrocities and widespread human rights violations in Sudan.

The UAE’s request for inspection exemption—on the grounds of “cargo sensitivity” without offering legitimate justification—is a blatant violation of international aviation laws and global arms trafficking agreements.
