ALGIERS– In recent years, a significant number of Zionist officials and public figures of Moroccan descent have garnered attention for their pronounced loyalty to the Moroccan monarchy, particularly King Mohammed VI. This complex issue raises questions about the implications of their allegiance, given the historical context and the ongoing Palestinian conflict.
Notable Figures of Moroccan Descent in Zionist Leadership
Several prominent Zionist leaders come from Moroccan backgrounds, and their connections to Morocco have been a subject of public discourse. Aryeh Deri, the former Minister of the Interior, was born in Meknes, Morocco. Gadi Eisenkot, former Chief of Staff of the Zionist Defense Forces, hails from a Moroccan Jewish family. Meir Ben Shabbat, head of the National Security Council and an intelligence officer, also has Moroccan roots. Shlomo Amar, the Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community and the authority on religious affairs within the Zionist entity, is of Moroccan origin. Amir Ohana, who heads Shabak intelligence in Tel Aviv, shares this heritage, as does Amir Peretz, who serves as the Zionist Minister of Economy and Industry and is descended from Abu al-Jaad in Morocco.
Loyalty to the Moroccan Monarchy
These Zionist leaders’ ties to the Moroccan monarchy have not gone unnoticed. They have expressed their loyalty to King Mohammed VI, who shamefully recognized the state of “Israel”, despite the longstanding tension between the Zionists and the Muslim world.
