Zionist Piracy in Open Waters: Brutal Attack on Humanitarian Ship ‘Madleen’ Condemned as War Crime

Algiers, Algeria | June 9th, 2025 — In a brazen and criminal act of maritime aggression, Zionist occupation forces launched a violent assault on the humanitarian ship Madleen, which was en route to deliver life-saving aid to the besieged Gaza Strip. The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas condemned the attack as a “criminal act of piracy”, demanding international accountability and urgent action to break the illegal and inhumane blockade that has strangled Gaza for over 17 years.

The Madleen—carrying a group of international peace activists and humanitarian volunteers—was intercepted in international waters by the Zionist navy, forcibly diverted to the port of Ashdod, and its passengers were illegally detained. These volunteers, representing multiple nationalities, were on a peaceful mission aimed at breaking the suffocating siege and drawing global attention to the deliberate starvation being inflicted on Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.

In a statement released shortly after the incident, Hamas strongly denounced the attack as “a flagrant violation of international law and a cowardly assault on civilians whose only weapons were compassion and solidarity.” The movement stressed that the mission of the Madleen was rooted in humanitarian principles and that its seizure reflects the desperation of the Zionist regime in the face of mounting global solidarity with Gaza.

“This piracy reveals the true face of an occupying entity that is terrified of the truth and fearful of the global conscience,” Hamas said. “The Zionist regime is attempting to silence the cries of Gaza by targeting the very people who are trying to feed the hungry and heal the wounded.”

Hamas demanded the immediate release of all detained international activists and called upon the United Nations, the International Criminal Court, and humanitarian organizations to publicly condemn the act and take swift measures to dismantle the Zionist-imposed blockade, which has become a modern-day weapon of mass punishment.

The movement also praised the courage of the international volunteers aboard the Madleen, calling them “a shining example of global resistance to injustice” and proof that “the voice of humanity remains alive and defiant in the face of Israeli tyranny.”

“The Zionist regime’s interception of the Madleen will not halt the wave of international solidarity surging in support of Gaza,” the statement concluded. “Instead, it will deepen the Zionist entity’s moral and diplomatic isolation and further expose its crimes before the world.”

The Gaza Strip, already devastated by a genocidal military campaign that has raged since October 2023, now faces the added horror of famine, deliberately engineered by policies of siege and aid denial. International humanitarian missions like that of the Madleen are lifelines, not threats—yet the Zionist regime treats compassion as a crime and humanitarianism as an enemy.

The world must no longer look away. The siege must end. The criminals must be held accountable. And the people of Gaza must be allowed to live in dignity and freedom.
