Zouhir Nasri Meets Russian Federation Council Deputy Chair to Deepen Bilateral Ties and Strengthen Strategic Partnership

In Saint Petersburg, on the sidelines of the 11th Nevsky International Ecological Congress, Algerian MP Zouhir Nasri engages in high-level talks with Konstantin Kosachev to reinforce Algerian-Russian parliamentary, economic, and strategic cooperation.

Algiers, Algeria | May 24th, 2025 — On the first day of his participation in the 11th Nevsky International Ecological Congress, held in Saint Petersburg on May 22–23, 2025, Mr. Zouhir Nasri, Vice President of the Algerian People’s National Assembly, accompanied by MP Youcef Berchid, held high-level bilateral talks with Mr. Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council of Russia, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding and robust relations between Algeria and Russia, rooted in deep historical ties and mutual solidarity between their peoples. Both parties underscored the importance of further enhancing this cooperation across various domains.

The talks came against the backdrop of a renewed dynamism in Algerian-Russian relations, especially following official visits by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Russia. These visits culminated in the signing of a declaration on a “Deep Strategic Partnership” and the strengthening of the bilateral legal framework that governs cooperation.

In this context, both sides emphasized the need to develop new mechanisms for advancing economic cooperation, promoting investments, and boosting trade exchanges. Such efforts aim to elevate the economic partnership to a level that reflects the depth and vitality of bilateral relations.

Mr. Nasri called on Russian companies to invest in Algeria and benefit from the promising opportunities offered by the country’s new investment law and the incentives adopted to foster foreign investment. He highlighted Algeria’s determination to become a regional hub and a strategic partner in Africa.

The discussions also stressed the importance of invigorating parliamentary cooperation through active parliamentary diplomacy. Both sides agreed on the necessity of exchanging bilateral visits, reinforcing dialogue between their respective parliamentary friendship groups, and coordinating more closely within various parliamentary diplomacy forums.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, the meeting allowed both parties to exchange perspectives on pressing global developments and current international and regional issues, with a particular emphasis on the Palestinian cause, where both countries share principled positions in support of justice and self-determination.
