Algeria, Jordan Forge Deeper Pharmaceutical Ties to Boost Innovation and Regional Integration

Jordan hails its pharmaceutical cooperation with Algeria as “highly successful,” as both nations move to consolidate strategic alliances in drug manufacturing, research, and commercial integration.

Algiers, Algeria | June 16th, 2025 — In a step toward strengthening inter-Arab industrial cooperation, Jordan’s Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Ibrahim Al Hawari, announced his country’s intent to deepen its already “highly fruitful” partnership with Algeria in the pharmaceutical sector. The announcement came during an official working visit to Algiers, where the Jordanian minister led a high-level delegation of pharmaceutical industry stakeholders.

During his meeting with Khaled Dahane, acting Secretary-General representing the Minister of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Al Hawari emphasized Jordan’s strong appreciation for the strategic partnership with Algeria. “The cooperation between Algeria and Jordan in the field of pharmaceutical industry is very fruitful, and we are eager to take it further,” said the minister, pointing to Algeria’s growing role as a regional pharmaceutical hub.

The visit focused on ways to elevate bilateral collaboration through expanded exchange of expertise, particularly in innovative pharmaceutical manufacturing and research. Al Hawari called for intensified cooperation between industry players from both countries, highlighting the benefits of shared knowledge in advancing therapeutic development and self-sufficiency.

From the Algerian side, Dahane welcomed the Jordanian initiative, describing the bilateral partnership as “a model of successful cooperation.” He praised Jordan’s expanding investment footprint in Algeria and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving deeper integration in drug production and commercialization.

“This partnership is not only strategic but essential,” Dahane noted. “Algeria’s national pharmaceutical strategy aims to localize the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), which will drastically reduce production costs and enhance the competitiveness of local medicine.”

Currently, three Jordanian pharmaceutical companies operate in Algeria, marking a tangible milestone in cross-border industrial engagement. The two sides agreed to bolster ties between Algeria’s National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products (ANPP) and its Jordanian counterpart, particularly in facilitating faster drug registration and access to markets.

Senior officials from both countries, including directors from ANPP and key ministry advisers, participated in the high-level talks. The meeting reaffirmed the shared ambition to create a joint pharmaceutical ecosystem that serves both domestic markets and positions Algeria and Jordan as regional leaders in pharmaceutical innovation and distribution.
