In a step to strengthen bilateral ties in the media sector, Algeria’s Minister of Communication, Zoheir Bouamama, welcomed his Nigerien counterpart, Aji Ali Salatou, along with the accompanying delegation, to Algiers on Wednesday. The discussions focused on implementing the recommendations of the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint Commission, held in Niamey on March 23–24, 2026.

Central to the talks was the finalization of procedures for ratifying the media cooperation agreement signed in 2017. Both ministers also examined Algeria’s proposal to update existing accords between the audiovisual and print media institutions of the two countries, ensuring alignment with the evolving landscape of information and communication.

Minister Bouamama reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to advancing its partnership with Niger in the media domain. He highlighted the planned establishment of training programs for Nigerien journalists and media professionals, designed to enhance skills and benefit from the expertise of Algeria’s specialized institutions.

The dialogue extended to exchanges of experience in managing media enterprises, audiovisual broadcasting techniques, and strategies to counter disinformation. Such initiatives reflect the strategic vision endorsed by the presidents of Algeria and Niger, Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Abdourahamane Tiani, during their meeting in Algiers in February 2026. Bouamama emphasized the essential role of media support in promoting this elevated dimension of bilateral relations and in strengthening the bonds of fraternity and neighborhood between the two peoples.

Aji Ali Salatou welcomed the visit, praising the quality of the discussions. He reiterated Niger’s commitment to implementing the agreements concluded in Niamey and expressed his country’s determination to explore further cooperation in information and communication. He confirmed that the media cooperation accord would be ratified promptly, commending Algeria’s consistent support and the shared determination of the two governments to elevate their partnership to new heights.
