Farid Ghazali Officially Assumes Leadership of the APPO in Brazzaville
Algiers – December 2025 – A new chapter has formally begun for the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) with the official installation of Mr. Farid Ghazali as Secretary General during a ceremony held in Brazzaville, marking a significant moment in the institutional life of the continental energy body.
The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of the Congo and the incumbent President of the APPO Council of Ministers for the year 2025. The event underscored the strategic importance of the Organization at a time when African energy producers are increasingly called upon to coordinate their positions, strengthen cooperation, and assert a unified voice within the global energy landscape.
The official installation was attended by the Ambassador of Algeria to the Republic of the Congo, alongside Mr. Amine Remini, President of the Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority (ARH), who represented Algeria within the APPO framework. Their presence reflected Algeria’s continued commitment to the Organization and its active role in supporting African cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector.
Farid Ghazali’s assumption of office comes at a critical juncture for the APPO, as member states seek to enhance collective action, promote sustainable development of petroleum resources, and defend the strategic interests of African producers amid shifting global energy dynamics.
