Gara Djebilet: Sonarem, Tosyali Algérie Seal Strategic Partnership to Unlock One of Algeria’s Most Promising Iron Ore Frontiers

Algiers – December 2025 – In a step toward consolidating Algeria’s industrial sovereignty and accelerating the transformation of its mining sector, the Director General of the Sonarem Group, Reda Belhadj, received today, Monday, 8 December, Alp Topçuoğlu, President of Tosyali Algérie, in the presence of senior officials from both entities. The meeting marked a pivotal moment in reaffirming the strength, depth, and long-standing consistency of cooperation between the two partners, while underscoring a shared determination to elevate their collaboration to an even higher strategic level.
The encounter was held within the framework of the implementation of the major strategic partnership project between Sonarem—through its subsidiary, the Algerian Iron and Steel Company (FERAL)—and Tosyali Algérie. As part of this process, the constitutive general assembly of a new joint company was convened, an entity specifically tasked with the development and valorization of the iron ore reserves at the Gara Djebilet deposit, one of the country’s most significant and long-awaited mining assets.
According to the project’s roadmap, the newly established company aims to produce high-quality concentrated iron with an initial production capacity estimated at 4 million tonnes per year, harnessing state-of-the-art technologies designed to treat and reduce phosphorus—a key technical challenge associated with the exploitation of Gara Djebilet.
Beyond its industrial ambition, this project stands as a cornerstone of Algeria’s broader national strategy to enhance the value of its mineral resources, strengthen industrial sovereignty, deepen industrial integration, and transfer advanced technologies to the domestic sector. It is equally conceived as a powerful catalyst for creating real, sustainable added value and bolstering the national economy through effective and durable partnerships.
