Hydraulics Minister Taha Derbal Demands Swift Execution of Water Projects Within Deadlines

Algiers – September 2025 – Algeria’s Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal, has sent a clear and uncompromising message: the pace of execution in the water sector must accelerate, and deadlines are not to be treated as optional. Speaking on Tuesday during a high-level meeting devoted to monitoring dam operations and assessing the progress of development projects under the National Agency for Dams and Transfers (ANBT), the minister underscored that the timely delivery of infrastructure projects is essential to safeguarding and improving public water services.
The session, attended by senior ministry officials, the Director General of ANBT, and the central director for projects in the East, served as both a progress review and a sharp reminder. Derbal pressed for intensified field oversight, insisting that all obstacles hampering advancement be removed without delay.
“The priority is not merely to plan or announce projects, but to deliver them—on the ground, on time, and in line with the expectations of citizens,” the minister emphasized, according to the ministry’s communiqué. He reiterated that effective project management and punctuality are the backbone of a robust public water service, which in turn represents a strategic pillar of national development.
