Algiers, Algeria | In a ceremony held on Monday at its headquarters in the capital, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Algeria paid tribute to the Algerian youth team that achieved a historic and distinguished performance at the International Youth Robot Competition (IYRC 2025), recently staged in South Korea.

During the competition, which took place on August 5–6, the Algerian delegation left an indelible mark by securing three prestigious awards. The gold medal was awarded to MEDICart, a groundbreaking medical robot powered by computer vision designed to assist in healthcare environments. The silver medal went to ECOSORT, a smart ecological robot engineered for advanced waste-sorting, embodying sustainability and environmental stewardship. Meanwhile, the bronze medal was conferred upon Smart Zoo, an intelligent system dedicated to the management and care of animals, underlining the Algerian youth’s ability to innovate across multiple spheres of applied robotics and artificial intelligence.

The ceremony, attended by the award-winning students, their mentors from the Algerian start-up New Gate Robot, and representatives of Algeria Venture, was a moment of profound recognition. The gathering not only celebrated the remarkable achievements of these prodigious talents but also reaffirmed Algeria’s capacity to nurture cutting-edge innovation at the global level.

In his address, South Korea’s Ambassador to Algeria, You Ki-jun, underscored the broader significance of the competition, describing it as “a platform that embodies the creativity, foresight, and determination of young generations in a sector that is redefining the future.” He further highlighted that the Algerian team’s performance “not only represents technical excellence but also mirrors a shared spirit of innovation between Algeria and South Korea.”

The ambassador also stressed the role of such exchanges in cementing bilateral cooperation, noting that “these results illustrate the potential for expanded scientific, technological, and cultural partnerships, with youth at the forefront of this dynamic collaboration.”
