Mozambican President Pays Tribute to Algeria’s Liberation Martyrs: A Gesture of Reverence and Shared Memory

Algiers – September 2025 – In a solemn and deeply symbolic act, the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, paid tribute on Saturday to the heroes of Algeria’s glorious War of National Liberation, reaffirming the profound historical ties that unite the two nations through sacrifice, struggle, and shared ideals of freedom.
During his visit to the revered Martyrs’ Sanctuary in Algiers, President Chapo laid a wreath at the commemorative stele and observed a minute of silence in honor of the Chouhada of the Revolution of November 1, 1954. The gesture, imbued with both reverence and recognition, echoed the enduring solidarity between Mozambique and Algeria, whose peoples have long shared the spirit of resistance against colonial oppression.
The visit, held on the sidelines of Chapo’s working trip to Algeria for the Fourth Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), served not only as a moment of remembrance but also as a reaffirmation of the historical fraternity that continues to shape political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two states. Under the theme “Gateway to New Opportunities,” the IATF has brought together African leaders and stakeholders to strengthen continental integration, a cause to which both Algeria and Mozambique remain firmly committed.
