President Tebboune Holds High-Level Talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman in Algiers

A ceremonial welcome marked the beginning of a two-day state visit as the leaders of Algeria and Oman convene for strategic discussions at Houari Boumediene Airport

Algiers, Algeria | May 4th, 2025 — In a powerful display of diplomatic warmth and strategic alliance-building, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, held an in-depth discussion on Sunday afternoon with the Sultan of Oman, His Majesty Haitham bin Tariq. The meeting took place at the presidential lounge of Houari Boumediene International Airport, marking the commencement of the Omani monarch’s two-day state visit to Algeria.

 

The official talks were preceded by a grand ceremonial reception befitting the stature of the visiting dignitary. President Tebboune personally welcomed his “brother,” His Majesty Haitham bin Tariq, in the presence of senior Algerian state officials, members of the government, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Algiers.

Upon the Sultan’s arrival, the national anthems of Algeria and Oman were played, resonating solemnly through the airport grounds. The two leaders jointly inspected honor detachments from various branches of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), who saluted the dignitaries with military precision and pride. In a powerful gesture of respect, 21 ceremonial cannon shots were fired to mark the high-profile visit of Oman’s sovereign to Algerian soil.

This visit, rich in symbolism and diplomacy, underlines the growing cooperation between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman. It sets the stage for intensified bilateral engagement, further strengthening ties in political, economic, and strategic domains, within a regional context increasingly defined by cooperation and mutual respect.
