Algiers – December 2025 – President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, received on Monday, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, You Ki-Jun, according to a communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic.
The Korean ambassador paid a farewell visit to President Tebboune at the conclusion of his diplomatic mission in Algeria, the statement specified.
In a press declaration, Ambassador You Ki-Jun expressed his honor at having represented the Republic of Korea in a country that, he said, “occupies a special place,” affirming that Algeria is “not only a strategic partner for my country on the African continent, but also a true friend.” He described the meeting as a valuable opportunity to review the progress achieved by Algeria and the Republic of Korea, while also exploring future prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
The diplomat further underlined that his tenure in Algeria was marked by the revitalization of bilateral partnership, attributing this momentum to President Tebboune, who, he said, “has given particular attention to strengthening joint efforts with the Republic of Korea.” Addressing the various dimensions of bilateral cooperation, Ambassador You Ki-Jun noted that it extends beyond the economic sphere to include defense, security, and cultural exchanges, which have “significantly consolidated our fraternal relations.”
On the commercial front, the ambassador stated that the volume of bilateral trade clearly reflects the scope and dynamism of cooperation, pointing to the sustained efforts of both governments to revive the activities of the Algerian–Korean Joint Commission. In this context, he highlighted the readiness of Korean companies to contribute effectively to Algeria’s ambitious industrial development program.
At the international level, Ambassador You Ki-Jun commended Algeria’s active role in international forums and its support for the Republic of Korea, welcoming the close cooperation between the two countries within the United Nations Security Council.
