President Tebboune Welcomes President Kagame in Algiers — Rwandan Leader Pays Tribute at the Martyrs’ Monument

Algiers, Algeria | June 3rd, 2025 —  The President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, paid solemn tribute on Tuesday at the Martyrs’ Memorial (Sanctuaire du Martyr) in Algiers, commemorating the heroes of Algeria’s valiant War of National Liberation. Standing in a moment of reflection at one of Algeria’s most revered landmarks, President Kagame laid a wreath before the commemorative stele and observed a minute of silence in memory of the Chouhada of the glorious November 1st, 1954 Revolution.

This tribute marks the beginning of a two-day official state visit to Algeria by the Rwandan head of state, carried out at the invitation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The visit underscores the growing ties between Algeria and Rwanda, two nations with deeply rooted struggles for sovereignty and dignity.

Earlier that day, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune personally welcomed President Kagame at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers. The welcoming ceremony reflected the high esteem accorded to the Rwandan leader, with the presence of senior state officials and members of the Algerian government.

The two presidents stood side by side as the national anthems of Algeria and Rwanda were played, before reviewing a ceremonial detachment of the People’s National Army (ANP) which rendered honors to both heads of state.

Following the military tribute, President Tebboune and President Kagame greeted the members of their respective official delegations, setting the tone for a visit expected to further deepen bilateral cooperation in various strategic sectors.
