Sifi Ghrieb Launches the First National Skills Olympiad in Oran

Algiers – November 2025 – In a landmark event marking a new chapter for Algeria’s vocational training landscape, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb officially inaugurated the first edition of the National Skills Olympiad on Monday evening in Oran. Acting on behalf of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Prime Minister presided over an opening ceremony that brought together 550 finalists from across the country—young men and women who had distinguished themselves in local and regional qualifying rounds throughout the year.
Held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, the ceremony reflected the state’s heightened commitment to elevating vocational training as a strategic pillar of national development. The event was attended by a constellation of senior officials, including the Minister of Vocational Training and Education, Nassima Arhab; the Minister of the Interior, Saïd Sayoud; the Minister of Youth and Head of the High Council for Youth, Mustapha Hidaoui; the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouaddah; and the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine Mahdi Oualid.
International representation underscored the continental dimension of the initiative, with the presence of Libya’s Minister of Technical and Vocational Education, Ikhlef Saïd Essifaou, and Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Suweiba Saïd Ahmed. The Wali of Oran, Ibrahim Ouchane, alongside local authorities and sectoral representatives, also attended the ceremony, reaffirming the city’s readiness to host this pioneering national gathering.
The 2025 edition of the Olympiad showcases a broad and ambitious programme, with competitions spanning six major professional domains: construction and public works technologies, information and communication technologies, service industries, creative arts and fashion, transport, and logistics. A total of forty-four specialties are represented, reflecting the diversity and dynamism of Algeria’s vocational sectors.
The jury, composed of seasoned instructors, sector professionals, economic actors, and technical experts, is tasked with rigorously assessing the work submitted by the participating trainees—an evaluation process designed to elevate standards and identify the most promising national talents.
This inaugural edition is the culmination of a nationwide effort that mobilized more than 8,000 participants from 58 wilayas during the earlier stages of competition. Organizers expect nearly 60,000 visitors to attend the event, supported by 300 volunteers and multiple technical and administrative committees.
Beyond its national significance, the Olympiad serves as a crucial stepping stone toward international excellence. The winners will carry Algeria’s colours to the continental competition in Zambia and to the WorldSkills global event in Shanghai next year.
