Slimani to Dzair Tube: The Intra-African Trade Fair in Algiers Will Be a Launchpad for Establishing the Largest Common African Market

Algiers – September 2025 – Algiers is poised to take center stage in Africa’s economic future as it prepares to host the Intra-African Trade Fair 2025 (IATF2025), an event described by economic expert Abdelkader Slimani as a defining moment in the continent’s path toward establishing the largest common market in Africa’s history. Speaking to Dzair Tube, Slimani underscored that the fair is not merely an economic gathering but a cornerstone for deepening African integration and positioning Algeria as the driving force behind the continent’s transformation.
Slimani emphasized that the overarching goal is to exponentially increase intra-African trade, currently valued at around $280 billion, to at least $500 billion in the near to medium term. This ambition, he stressed, will be achieved through Algeria’s proven expertise in economic governance, strategic investment management, and its robust capacity to create synergies across African economies.
The economist further noted that the fair will be instrumental in attracting cross-border investments, not only within Africa but also from Asia, Europe, and beyond. “Algeria today leads the locomotive of African economic development,” Slimani said, pointing to Algeria’s substantial investment in infrastructure and strategic projects such as the Trans-Saharan Highway, fiber-optic networks, ports, and cross-border corridors that are reshaping continental connectivity.
Beyond large-scale trade, Slimani highlighted the event as a unique platform for fostering partnerships and stimulating investments in micro and emerging enterprises. Algeria’s successful track record in supporting start-ups and small businesses—underpinned by a modern investment law and a competitive business environment—provides a compelling model that could channel billions of dollars into innovative financing, knowledge economy ventures, renewable energy, and infrastructure.
The magnitude of the fair is equally reflected in its participation: over 2,000 exhibitors from more than 140 countries, with African representation standing out in strength. Major international banks are also set to attend, seeking new opportunities and alliances that place Algeria firmly as a gateway for investments across the continent. Slimani revealed that agreements worth more than $44 billion are expected, with Algeria aiming to secure at least $5 billion in intra-African and interregional trade and investment.
In his closing remarks, Slimani stressed that Algeria will use the event to project its image as a reliable partner and an attractive investment destination, bolstered by a new legal framework encompassing investment, land management, financial regulation, and banking reform. “This is not only about hosting an economic fair,” he concluded. “It is about Algeria reaffirming its leadership, shaping Africa’s economic destiny, and building a continental marketplace rooted in trust, innovation, and solidarity.”
