ALGIERS – Algeria is set to make its debut at the Formula Student UK 2026 competition with the country’s first fully home-designed and locally manufactured Formula-style race car, as a team of students from the National Polytechnic School of El Harrach – ENP) prepares to compete on the renowned Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom.

The participation, announced on Friday by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, marks the first time Algeria will be represented at one of the world’s most prestigious university engineering competitions by a prototype conceived, designed and built entirely on Algerian soil.

Competing under the banner of the ENP Racing Team, the students will showcase Algeria’s engineering capabilities in a competition widely regarded as a global benchmark for emerging automotive engineers. Formula Student challenges university teams to develop high-performance racing prototypes while demonstrating their technical feasibility, safety, engineering excellence and commercial viability before panels of industry experts.

According to the ministry, the team’s qualification follows months of intensive research, engineering design, manufacturing and testing.

“After long months of design, fabrication and testing, the participation of this team embodies the ambition of an entire generation of young engineers determined to raise the national flag on one of the world’s most iconic motor racing circuits,” the ministry said in a statement.

The project highlights the growing capabilities of Algerian universities in advanced engineering and applied scientific research. The race car was developed through a comprehensive process carried out entirely in Algeria, encompassing chassis design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing and endurance testing.

Beyond the competition itself, the initiative is expected to provide valuable international exposure for Algerian engineering education, creating opportunities for academic cooperation and stronger links with the global automotive industry.

The ministry described the project as a reflection of Algeria’s commitment to fostering innovation, technological excellence and student-led research, while demonstrating the ability of local talent to compete alongside leading universities from around the world.

The ENP Racing Team is scheduled to take to the starting grid at Silverstone during the Formula Student UK 2026 competition, marking a landmark moment for Algeria’s engineering and innovation landscape.
