Algerian Government Launches High-Level Probe into the Fatal Incident to Uncover Failures and Hold All Responsible Parties Accountable

Algiers, Algeria | June 23rd, 2025 — In response to the tragic events that unfolded Saturday evening at the iconic July 5 Stadium in Algiers, the Algerian government has officially installed a high-level commission of inquiry tasked with investigating the causes and identifying all failings and responsibilities that led to the deadly incident.

The installation ceremony was held Monday morning at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, following direct instructions from Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui. The Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies, and Territorial Planning, Brahim Merad, personally oversaw the formation of the commission, underscoring the gravity of the matter and the government’s firm commitment to full transparency and accountability.

The commission is composed of representatives from the Ministries of the Interior, Justice, Housing, and Sports, along with top officials from the National Gendarmerie Command, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the Technical Building Control Authority (CTC), and executives from MC Alger Football Club, whose stadium was the site of the tragedy.

This multi-disciplinary body has been instructed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, which has sent shockwaves across the country and beyond. The commission’s responsibilities include identifying all administrative, structural, or procedural shortcomings, whether related to stadium safety standards, infrastructure integrity, or event management protocols.

The Ministry of the Interior has clarified in an official statement that the commission must submit its detailed findings as soon as possible, ensuring that the truth is revealed and justice is delivered. The Algerian authorities have pledged to take decisive action based on the investigation’s conclusions, with legal consequences for any individual or entity found negligent.
