Algeria Opens State Aid Process for Victims of July Wildfires
Local and national assessment committees have completed their work, clearing the way for compensation decisions covering damaged agricultural products, homes and household property

ALGIERS — Citizens affected by the forest fires that swept parts of Algeria in July have been invited to visit their local municipalities from August 18, 2026 to collect decisions confirming their eligibility for state assistance, the Ministry of Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport said Thursday.
The measure follows instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to support victims and address damage caused to agricultural products, homes, furniture, equipment and household appliances.
The ministry said the work of both local assessment committees and the national committee was completed on August 11, following an evaluation of the losses sustained by affected citizens.
The lists of eligible beneficiaries and the categories of damage approved for state assistance have subsequently been transmitted to the relevant sectors and walis for implementation of the decisions.
Affected citizens are therefore required to approach their municipalities of residence from August 18 to collect their official decisions granting the state aid.
