Bank of Algeria Warns of Fake Document Purporting to Amend Travel Allowance Rules

The central bank says a document circulating online under the title “Instruction No. 08-2026” is fraudulent and confirms that no changes have been made to the existing rules governing foreign-exchange allowances for overseas travel.

ALGIERS, Algeria — The Bank of Algeria has warned internet users against a fake document circulating on social media that purports to be a new central-bank instruction concerning the foreign-exchange allowance for travel abroad.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the bank’s communications unit said the document bearing the title “Bank of Algeria Instruction No. 08-2026”, dated Aug. 12, 2026, is fraudulent.

The central bank also clarified that no amendment has been made to Instruction No. 07-2026, dated July 13, 2026, concerning the granting of foreign-exchange rights for overseas travel through an international payment card or an international payment card specifically designated for the travel allowance.

The communications unit urged internet users to rely exclusively on documents issued by the Bank of Algeria and published through its verified official social-media accounts and official website, amid the circulation of the unauthorised document online.

The warning effectively confirms that Instruction No. 07-2026 remains the applicable reference for the travel-related foreign-exchange allowance, with no new Instruction No. 08-2026 having been issued by the central bank.
