Attaf: Algeria Committed to Strengthening Partnership with Belarus, Accelerating Joint Cooperation Projects
Minister of State and Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf says Algeria is committed to advancing bilateral cooperation with Belarus, accelerating the implementation of joint initiatives and expanding economic, political and scientific partnerships.

ALGIERS — Algeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Ahmed Attaf’s visit to Belarus, where both countries reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation and pledged to accelerate the implementation of joint initiatives across key sectors.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf said on Thursday that Algeria remains determined to work closely with Belarus to elevate bilateral relations in line with the aspirations of the leaders of both countries.
Bilateral Cooperation Shows Positive Momentum
Speaking to reporters after meeting Maxim Ryzhenkov during his official visit to Belarus, Attaf said the two ministers reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation, describing it as experiencing “positive momentum” that should be preserved, strengthened and further expanded.
He stressed the need to move beyond consultations and exchanges of views toward implementation, monitoring and evaluation to ensure the effective execution of the understandings reached during the meeting between Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Alexander Lukashenko during the Belarusian president’s visit to Algeria last December.
Attaf noted that the two sides had agreed on a roadmap comprising 43 initiatives, adding that more than half are already being implemented in priority sectors including industry, pharmaceuticals, energy, agriculture, scientific cooperation and mining.
He further highlighted that Algeria-Belarus relations are institutionally framed through the Joint Commission for Cooperation and legally supported by 16 bilateral agreements, 12 of which were signed during President Lukashenko’s visit to Algeria. Additional implementation mechanisms are also being established, including a Business Council expected to be launched during the next session of the Joint Commission.
Economic Cooperation Takes Center Stage
Attaf said both sides emphasized the importance of convening the second session of the Algeria-Belarus Joint Commission as soon as possible, describing it as the most appropriate mechanism for monitoring the implementation of commitments, assessing progress and identifying new areas of cooperation.
He added that economic cooperation featured prominently in discussions, with both ministers agreeing that trade volumes and mutual investment remain well below the actual potential of the two countries despite the promising opportunities available.
Shared Commitment to Multilateralism
Beyond bilateral relations, Attaf said he and his Belarusian counterpart exchanged views on major regional and international issues of common interest, noting that the increasingly complex international environment requires stronger dialogue, closer consultations and greater coordination between like-minded partners.
The discussions also underscored the importance of multilateralism, respect for international law and adherence to the principles of the United Nations and its Charter. The two sides reaffirmed that peaceful solutions must remain the preferred approach to resolving conflicts, citing the immense human and economic costs of war and its devastating consequences for humanity.
