Yesterday at the People’s Palace, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, presided over a solemn ceremony honoring Algerian athletes who achieved exceptional milestones this season. Filled with fervor, the event crowned outstanding performances on both the African and international stages, reaffirming the State’s unwavering support for the national sporting elite.
According to a statement from the Presidency shared on social media, the ceremony took place in the presence of senior state officials, government members, and iconic figures from Algerian sports.
USM Alger and Kaylia Nemour in the Spotlight
The reception highlighted the major architects behind the country’s recent sporting successes:

USM Alger at the Peak of Africa: The Algiers-based club received high praise after clinching the CAF Confederation Cup (2025–2026 season) against Egypt’s Zamalek, marking the second title in the club’s history in this competition. The tribute was attended by Sporting Director Saïd Allik, the Chairman of the Board, as well as all players, technical, and administrative staff.

Kaylia Nemour, the Gymnastics Star: The Olympic champion received a standing ovation for her world-class performances, cementing her status as an undeniable icon of international gymnastics.

Para-Sports in the Limelight: The national wheelchair basketball team was also honored for its impressive results, alongside numerous other champions from various disciplines.

The Minister of Sports, Walid Sadi, praised this presidential initiative, emphasizing that it transcends mere protocol to become a powerful catalyst for encouraging excellence.
On the sidelines of the event, the minister outlined the strategic directions for his sector:
“This warm reception carries a strong message for Algerian youth: hard work, discipline, merit, and patriotism remain at the heart of the State’s priorities, which spares no effort in supporting its elite athletes.”
Mr. Sadi also highlighted the “Olympic Champion” program, a strategic roadmap initiated under the guidance of President Tebboune. This project relies on mobilizing national federations and deploying increased material, scientific, and human resources with a clear objective: to shape a new generation of champions capable of sustaining Algeria’s prominence on the global sporting stage.
