Provincial Governors Mobilised to Remove Investment Barriers and Accelerate Economic Projects
BY Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS- Across several provinces in recent days, provincial governors (walis) have chaired a series of meetings of wilaya-level commissions tasked with monitoring and streamlining investment projects, as part of efforts to implement public authorities’ directives aimed at improving the business climate and accelerating the execution of economic initiatives nationwide.
The meetings focused on a detailed review of registered investment projects at various stages, including those awaiting launch, those under implementation, and others facing administrative, technical, or land-related constraints. Local authorities examined individual cases to identify bottlenecks hindering progress, with particular emphasis on unlocking stalled projects and ensuring smoother implementation timelines.
Assessments also covered the physical and procedural advancement of ongoing projects on the ground. Officials called for faster execution where feasible, stressing the importance of translating approved investments into operational projects capable of generating economic activity, employment, and local added value.
In parallel, the meetings served as coordination platforms bringing together local administrations, technical services, and investors. Project holders were able to raise concerns directly, while authorities underscored the need to strengthen institutional support, improve inter-agency coordination, and enhance responsiveness in handling investment-related procedures.
Officials reiterated the importance of simplifying administrative processes and reinforcing the “one-stop shop” mechanism as a key tool to reduce delays and improve the efficiency of public service delivery to investors. The approach forms part of broader efforts to modernise local economic governance and improve investment facilitation frameworks.
Authorities said the ongoing mobilisation reflects a broader policy direction aimed at creating a more attractive and efficient investment environment, supporting productive initiatives, fostering job creation, and advancing economic diversification within a sustainable development framework.
