AAPI’s Omar Rekkache: 353 Foreign Investment Projects Reflect Growing Investor Confidence in Algeria

ALGIERS – Algeria’s extensive infrastructure network and sustained economic reforms are reinforcing the country’s attractiveness as a major regional investment destination, with 353 foreign investment projects now registered, reflecting growing confidence among international investors, according to Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI).

Speaking during an economic conference entitled “Algeria: Potential, Reforms and Competitiveness for a Wealth-Creating Economy,” organised by the Ministry of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation as part of the 57th Algiers International Fair (FIA), Rekkache said Algeria has made substantial investments in strategic infrastructure over recent years to improve the business climate and facilitate investment, production, and exports.

During a panel discussion on “Algeria’s Strategic Assets: A Platform for Growth and Value Creation,” he highlighted the country’s integrated transport infrastructure, which includes 36 airports, 45 ports, including 20 commercial ports, an expanding railway network, and an extensive modern road system connecting production centres with domestic and international markets.

Rekkache also underscored the strategic importance of Algeria’s three major transport corridors linking the country to sub-Saharan Africa, describing them as key gateways for expanding access to African markets, alongside continued investment in telecommunications and digital technologies.

He explained that this infrastructure enables investors to streamline the import of raw materials and the export of finished products while benefiting from efficient logistical connections to ports and airports—factors that frequently rank among the primary concerns of international investors.

Addressing workforce development, Rekkache said AAPI continues to coordinate closely with institutional partners, including the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA) and the vocational education and training sector, to align training programmes with the evolving needs of businesses and ensure the availability of qualified human capital to support investment projects.

He further stressed that Algeria has strengthened its efforts to attract foreign direct investment by establishing a business environment founded on transparency, legal stability, and investor confidence, providing companies with greater long-term visibility for project implementation.

“In total, 353 foreign investment projects have been registered, with many already reaching advanced stages of implementation,” Rekkache said, noting that this progress demonstrates growing international confidence in Algeria’s investment climate and the effectiveness of the country’s ongoing economic reforms.

Looking ahead, he said Algeria is prioritising investment projects capable of generating significant added value, particularly those that support economic growth, reduce import dependency, improve the balance of payments, and strengthen national industrial capacities.

He added that increasing emphasis is also being placed on attracting large-scale investments in mining value chains, natural resource processing, food security, strategic agriculture, and pharmaceutical manufacturing as part of Algeria’s broader economic diversification strategy.
