Air Algérie Launches Direct Algiers–Luanda Service to Expand African Network and Strengthen Economic Ties with Angola

By Dr. Hana Saada

ALGIERS – Air Algérie has inaugurated a new direct air route linking Algiers with Luanda, expanding the national carrier’s African network and supporting broader efforts to strengthen economic, commercial and diplomatic relations between Algeria and Angola.

The inaugural flight departed on Friday evening from Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, the National Civil Aviation Agency, Angola’s Ambassador to Algeria Toko Diakenga Serao, alongside senior executives from Air Algérie and other national institutions.

The launch forms part of the implementation of directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and follows the outcomes of the state visit made to Algeria in May by Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, during which both countries agreed to establish a direct air connection between Algiers and Luanda.

According to Air Algérie, the new route is expected to facilitate closer exchanges between the two countries by improving connectivity for business travellers, investors, tourists and members of the wider public, while contributing to the expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The airline said the service also supports Algeria’s ambition to strengthen its position as a regional aviation hub linking Africa with international destinations, in line with the country’s broader transport and connectivity strategy.

The Algiers–Luanda route forms part of Air Algérie’s ongoing international expansion programme, with particular emphasis on increasing its presence across the African continent in response to growing passenger demand and rising economic exchanges.

The company added that the new connection is intended to offer greater travel flexibility and improved services while supporting investment opportunities, commercial partnerships, cultural exchanges and tourism cooperation between Algeria and Angola as bilateral relations continue to deepen.
