Algiers and Tunis have agreed to accelerate strategic cooperation in telecommunications, identifying a series of joint infrastructure, regulatory and digital economy projects during the 4th session of the Algeria–Tunisia Joint Technical Commission on Posts and Telecommunications held in Tunis from 3–5 June.

The meeting, co-chaired by Algeria’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki and his Tunisian counterpart Sofiane Hemissi, brought together senior officials and technical experts from both countries and was structured around five working groups covering telecommunications infrastructure, radio spectrum management, postal services, technology hubs, entrepreneurship, and broader bilateral cooperation.

According to a communiqué from Algeria’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, both sides prioritised the enhancement of existing terrestrial connectivity links and the study of a potential new joint submarine cable project toward Italy. Discussions also included preferential mobile roaming tariffs and the development of satellite-based Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

On spectrum management, the two countries agreed to establish a joint technical mechanism to coordinate mobile networks, reduce cross-border radio interference, and prepare for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027. Postal cooperation measures include joint philatelic programmes aimed at promoting shared cultural and historical heritage, as well as the expansion of cross-border postal logistics to support e-commerce.

Both sides also agreed to develop electronic data exchange systems and cross-border postal money transfer mechanisms, alongside initiatives to strengthen technology clusters, support start-ups, and expand incubation and acceleration programmes.

Officials described the outcomes as part of a broader effort to deepen digital integration and reduce the technological gap between the two countries, in line with bilateral agreements and recommendations from the 23rd session of the Algeria–Tunisia Grand Joint Commission.

Zerrouki said the momentum in bilateral cooperation reflects a shared strategic vision between Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Kaïs Saïed to elevate Algeria–Tunisia relations toward deeper economic and technological integration.
