The Algerian Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts has ordered the immediate closure and withdrawal of the operating licence of the hotel establishment “The Legacy”, located in the Hydra commune of Algiers, following an incident involving an affront to state symbols and the desecration of the national flag.

In a statement, the ministry said it initiated immediate administrative and legal procedures upon being informed of the incident, dispatching inspection teams to the site and establishing an investigative commission led by the ministry’s Inspector General and the Directorate of Tourism and Handicrafts in Algiers.

Following a field inquiry, the ministry said a decision was taken to enforce the closure measure and revoke the establishment’s licence, in coordination with local authorities, pending the findings of a detailed report on the circumstances of the incident.

The ministry stressed that the decision falls within the framework of strict enforcement of existing legislation governing hotel operations, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy toward any conduct deemed to undermine national symbols or violate professional and ethical obligations in the hospitality sector.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring compliance with regulations across tourism establishments and to applying legal measures against any breaches of statutory and ethical standards.
