Algeria, Turkey Elevate Strategic Partnership During Tebboune Visit To Ankara

Dr. Hana Saada

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune arrived in Ankara on Wednesday for an official visit aimed at deepening Algerian-Turkish strategic cooperation, amid rapidly expanding political, economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Tebboune, accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation, was officially welcomed at Esenboğa International Airport by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before the two leaders held a one-to-one meeting at the presidential lounge.

The visit marks a new phase in bilateral relations anchored in the 2006 Algeria-Turkey Friendship and Cooperation Treaty and reflects both governments’ intention to expand cooperation across strategic sectors while strengthening political coordination on regional and international issues.

As part of the programme, Tebboune is scheduled to visit the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk before holding expanded talks with Erdoğan at the Turkish presidential complex.

Discussions are expected to focus on assessing progress achieved in recent years following successive high-level exchanges between both presidents, alongside efforts to intensify political dialogue, economic integration and coordination on key regional dossiers, including the Palestinian issue.

The talks will later extend to both delegations to examine new frameworks for strengthening bilateral partnership mechanisms and expanding cooperation opportunities across multiple sectors.

Tebboune and Erdoğan are also set to co-chair the inaugural session of the Algerian-Turkish High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, viewed as a major institutional step in structuring long-term bilateral relations beyond conventional trade ties.

Several cooperation agreements covering strategic and economic sectors are expected to be signed during the visit.

The summit comes as Turkey consolidates its position as one of Algeria’s leading non-European economic partners, with bilateral trade exceeding $6.5bn and both countries targeting $10bn in medium-term exchanges, supported by growing Turkish investment across industry, steel, construction, logistics and manufacturing.
