A delegation from the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), led by its president Kamel Moula, held high-level talks in Geneva with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert F. Houngbo, focusing on labour standards, social dialogue, and emerging technological shifts affecting global labour markets.

The meeting underscored the Algerian private sector’s stated commitment to aligning domestic business practices with international labour standards, particularly in areas related to occupational health and safety. CREA representatives outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening workplace safety frameworks and promoting social justice principles as part of broader efforts to support sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Both sides also discussed avenues for future cooperation between Algerian economic actors and the ILO. According to the discussions, Houngbo expressed in-principle support for the organisation of a joint event in Algiers dedicated to assessing the impact of artificial intelligence on economic development and labour markets.

The proposed initiative would examine the implications of AI-driven transformation for enterprises, workers, and policy frameworks, including questions linked to productivity shifts, skills adaptation, and labour regulation in emerging digital economies.

The talks come amid growing international attention to the governance of artificial intelligence and its socio-economic consequences, particularly in developing and emerging economies seeking to balance competitiveness with social protection frameworks.
