ANIE Says Ready for July 2 Legislative Vote, Cites Full Electoral Preparedness

The Independent National Authority for Elections (ANIE) has stated that it is fully prepared to oversee the legislative elections scheduled for July 2, pledging conditions of transparency, neutrality and credibility throughout the electoral process.
ANIE acting president Karim Khelfane said the electoral body has completed its preparations to manage the vote, describing the forthcoming poll as a key national milestone in the consolidation of democratic practice and the rule of law.
He stressed that ANIE’s mandate is to ensure strict compliance with electoral legislation, rather than to exclude candidates, adding that decisions on nominations are based solely on legal and regulatory criteria. These include requirements related to signature thresholds, representation of youth, women and university graduates, as well as fiscal compliance.
Khelfane noted that political parties and independent lists that submitted applications early were able to rectify deficiencies, unlike others that filed at the last minute. He added that all ANIE decisions remain subject to judicial appeal, pointing to recent court reviews of several cases as evidence of institutional checks and legal oversight.
On campaign preparations, he said the authority had launched logistical and awareness initiatives months in advance, targeting students, youth and media professionals to encourage electoral participation. He also confirmed that newly established provinces are operationally ready for the vote following field assessments.
Regarding the Algerian diaspora, he highlighted its “special status,” noting that parliamentary representation abroad has been increased from eight to twelve seats.
