By Dr. Hana Saada
President of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Brahim Boughali, was received on Tuesday in Minsk by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during an official visit aimed at advancing political, economic and parliamentary cooperation between Algeria and Belarus.
According to a statement issued by the APN, Lukashenko praised the quality of bilateral relations and reaffirmed Belarus’ ambition to build a “strong and advanced partnership” with Algeria, which he said ranks among Minsk’s most important partnerships on the African continent.
The Belarusian president also recalled his recent visit to Algeria and his meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressing that the trip had injected new momentum into bilateral cooperation and further consolidated ties between the two countries.
Lukashenko highlighted Algeria’s growing regional and international role, while welcoming a convergence of positions between Algiers and Minsk on several issues of common interest.
For his part, Boughali underscored the positive trajectory of Algerian-Belarusian relations, particularly following last year’s meeting between the two heads of state in Algiers, reaffirming Algeria’s willingness to expand cooperation with Belarus across multiple sectors.
The APN speaker stated that the upcoming second session of the Algerian-Belarusian joint commission in Minsk is expected to open new avenues for political, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation.
Boughali also highlighted Algeria’s ongoing economic reforms under President Tebboune, centred on building a diversified and sustainable economy, while pointing to Belarusian expertise in industry and agriculture as areas of potential strategic cooperation.
Both sides stressed the importance of sustaining institutional dialogue and consultation mechanisms, while welcoming the recent signing of a parliamentary cooperation memorandum between the People’s National Assembly and the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.
The meeting further reflected the accelerating momentum of parliamentary exchanges between the two countries amid broader efforts to deepen bilateral strategic engagement.
