ALGIERS — Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf received, on Monday at the ministry’s headquarters, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is visiting Algeria in his capacity as President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

The meeting comprised a bilateral session followed by expanded talks between both delegations, focused on strengthening cooperation between Algeria and the GGGI.

Discussions reviewed ongoing steps related to the planned opening of a GGGI office in Algeria, alongside prospects for enhanced cooperation across key strategic domains, including sustainable development, food security, environmental protection, green economy development, water resource management, and the expansion of renewable energy use.

Both sides also exchanged views on Algeria’s contribution to the implementation of GGGI programmes and initiatives across Africa and the Arab world, in a move aimed at reinforcing South–South cooperation while advancing environmental justice principles and regional integration frameworks.

The talks took place within a broader context of Algeria’s drive to deepen international partnerships in sustainable development and accelerate its transition toward a green economy, in line with national priorities for balanced and sustainable growth.
